The Board of Judges
The Board of Judges (BOJ) shall comprise three (3) members from the public or private sector, academe, and/or the industry. They must be reputed to have extensive knowledge of the following subject area/s: Mathematics, Social Science, Arts and Literature, Science and Technology, and General Information. The members of the BOJ must be selected with due consideration of their notable track record, strong community reputation, and integrity. Their prominence and collective authority should significantly enhance the spirit of healthy competition and a sense of academic excellence, which the competition seeks to foster.
Minimum Qualifications
A member of the Board of Judges must:
- Be an industry practitioner or academician.
- Have extensive knowledge of the subject area/s of competition in which they are judging.
- Hold a credible and significant position in the institution where they belong.
The Board of Judges should be comprised of at least one (1) judge from the industry and shall be designated as the Chairperson.
All judges should be industry practitioners or academicians not currently employed at the host school within the last/latest two (2) consecutive terms.
Duties and Responsibilities
A member of the Board of Judges must:
- Provide the committee with a copy of their most recent résumé for proper recognition.
- Familiarize oneself with the relevant sections and General Guidelines of the Brain Masters Competition Mechanics.
- Sign and submit the Non-Disclosure Agreement to the Committee Head.
- Understand the physical environment of the competition area with special consideration for the school's available resources.
- Be at the competition site 30 minutes before the start of the Brain Masters.
- Serve as witness and arbitrator among parties during the proceedings to settle questions on:
- The qualification or disqualification of the team to compete based on the Competition Mechanics.
- Acceptability or unacceptability of contestants' response, as in cases of disagreements on clarity or interpretation of topics or questions on a technicality, compliance, or noncompliance with the Competition Mechanics.
- Other matters not indicated in the Competition Mechanics.
- Provide feedback to the organizers and students for further development of the competition.
Filing of Protests
Only the team leaders can file protests with the BOJ during the competition proper. Protests must be raised immediately before the next question is read. The team leader will then be asked to approach the judges to settle the issue. Once the next question is read, the team leader cannot raise a protest to the preceding question anymore. The BOJ will resolve controversies and objections before the next question is read by the Quiz Master. The decision of the BOJ is final and irrevocable.
